For me, one of the most enriching experiences in life is simply being allowed the privilege of walking closely with someone on a part of their life’s journey and sharing that time with them through the counselling process.
In some respects that reflects my experience of my own journey from working as a Nursery Nurse, through the range of working alongside children with learning difficulties to being the Manager of a Nursery and Pre-School with all the attendant responsibilities which that brings. It was through my experience as a Manager that I discovered my interest lay in developing that meaningful relationship with people where they felt safe to explore their issues.
Having realised that this was to be my journey, I continued with my thinking and training by graduating from Strathclyde University with a Post Graduate Diploma in Person Centred Counselling.
So far I have had the chance to counsel in various settings, including the opportunity to teach others who are interested in discovering whether counselling is for them. All these experiences have been important in shaping my thinking and the skills that I have gained along the way I have been able to use within the Kerith experience, whether in assisting in the management of the service to the actual working with clients on a one-to-one basis.
