Counsellor
I completed my counselling diploma in August 2007 having studied the Aphesis Model (Aphesis meaning Freedom) at Crossreach in Edinburgh. The Aphesis Model is an integrated approach to counselling and draws on the two main theories of Person Centred and Psychodynamic as well as other skills and interventions as appropriate; and all of this through the lens of a Biblical world view.
In June 2009 I completed a Life Coaching diploma having completed most of my placement hours with clients in HMP Kilmarnock. As a result of this in October 2009 Kerith entered into a pilot project with the prison offering Life Coaching and Counselling to prisoners as a means of addressing their offending behaviour.
Although my background for many years has been in the business world I am now working as a chaplain for the Scottish Prison Service which allows me not only to fulfil a life long interest and passion for the rehabilitation of offenders, but to be paid for the privilege.
I have been involved as a volunteer at Kerith since doing my training placement in 2006/7 and now as a qualified counsellor and project leader of the prison project at HMP Kilmarnock.
